Harold (Lead Singer)

Hello everyone Harold Jernigan here, lead singer of Chain Reaction, we are a newly formed Classic Rock band from Portsmouth VA. I have been lucky enough to have sung with many talented local musicians. Now I have found 3 musicians that love Classic Rock, and we are about to bring it straight to you. I am from Norfolk VA went to Maury high School, shout out to all my Commodores, looking forward to seeing everyone at the show.

Bill (Lead Guitar)

A true local, born in Norfolk General Hospital in 1954 and raised in Suffolk, Virginia.  “I’ve always wanted to play guitar.  When I was little a friend’s mother down the street from where I lived had one and she would play it on their porch.  When I would hear it I would go down there and she would teach me”.  His grandmother, who had been a concert violinist, thought she might like to learn guitar, but upon seeing Bill’s enthusiasm for the instrument, gave her guitar to him.  He’s been playing ever since.  Some notable highlights were stints with local bands “William David Baker” and “Second Wind”.  “Second Wind” and a subsequent band “Third Offense” were both in WNOR’s “Top Ten Bands” competition, playing The Boathouse and Town Point Park.  Another highlight for “Second Wind” was getting to serve as the backup band to “Molly Hatchet” for their show at Slade’s Park.  After a short stint in the hard-rock band “Widow Maker”, the time pressure of raising a family took precedence, and other than helping friends out with open-mic nights at local establishments Bill concentrated on his playing in his home recording studio.  “Chain Reaction” is a welcomed opportunity to return to the local band scene.

Dean (Bass)

I have been playing bass since I was a young teenager, unlike most bass players that started out on the six-string guitar, I started out my musical endeavor learning how to play bass.  During my musical progression I started out playing in many different garage bands gigging at school dances and parties.  In my adult life I’ve played in several cover bands gigging at nightclubs, and county fairs.  I have been involved with writing originals which we had performed in our sets.  Some of my musical influences are Berry Oakley from the Allman Brothers, Chris Squire from Yes, and Geddy Lee from Rush to name a few.  The types of music I’ve played are Classic Rock, Southern Rock, Rock, Blues, and Country.

Randy (Drums)

Hello everyone, I’m Randall “Randy” Carper. I started playing drums around 11 - 12 years old. My first real band happened at 15 years old - a band called Direct Connection.  We played a lot of Grand Funk and other music of that era.  When I graduated from high school, I went on the road with a group of older guys through the Florida Keys playing Southern rock and country.  When I finally made it back to Portsmouth, I got back in touch with Direct Connection, and we played a lot of Judas Priest and rock n roll from the mid-80s as well as some earlier rock.  After that, I got in a band with our lead player, Bill Jeffreys.  We had a hard rock/heavy metal band called Widowmaker.  Then, I made a 180 and was hired into the Show Band featuring Ms. Suzi Arden playing Swing Jazz/Country.  I have played in several local bands since then.  This current band brings many songs of many different genres.  I can’t wait to get out and show y’all of our hard work in the studio.  Thanks for listening. See y’all out there. Rock on.
